How to leave a legacy

South Kerrier Heratage Trust is a registered charity so any bequest that you make to the South Kerrier Heritage trust will be exempt from inheritance tax and leaving a legacy gift in your Will is more straightforward than people think. It is important to make sure that your Will does exactly what you want it to. Gifts to South Kerrier Heritage Trust or any charity can be a specified sum of money (a pecuniary gift) or a proportion of your residuary estate (a residuary gift). Many people choose to leave some or all of their residuary estate to charity; once you have made provision for family and friends, the residue provides an excellent opportunity to give support to the charities which matter most to you.

By leaving more than 10 per cent of your estate to charity you can also benefit in an overall reduction in inheritance tax from 40 per cent to 36 per cent. This could reduce the amount of tax that may have to be paid out of your estate, leaving more for all the beneficiaries. For UK taxpayers there has never been a better time to consider leaving a charitable legacy.
